It's been a busy week. Have had electricians here. Older son finally moved out. Husband working 1000 hours. Just all kinds of things.
I need a mental break right now......so we're going to get back to the New Mexico trip.
Day 2 began with us heading to the train station. Lucky for us it was 2 minutes down the road. Even luckier for us.....there was a coffee place right across the street. The coffee place was our first stop.
With beverages in hand....we parked at the train station to get ready for our train journey. The trip was to begin at 10am and the train would get back to the station at 5pm. We were headed into Colorado and enjoy the scenery along the way.
We had some time to spend in the train yard before we boarded the train.......kept us busy taking LOTS of pictures!
First pictures had to be with Cinder Bear. He was hosting a party for some kids in the front train car.
The engine was an old steam engine that ran on water and coal. It was kind of neat to hear the chug, chug, chugging of the engine all day. The top speed we ever went was about 20 mph.
In reading the reviews for this train adventure, most people were recommending getting tickets for the last car, which was the Parlor Car. Some of the perks were it was an adult only car, it held only 20 passengers, the seating was nice and comfortable, we had free beverages the entire day, and they treated us with all kinds of goodies. One of the best parts......you were able to stand on the very back deck of the train during the ride and get all kinds of amazing pictures!
The inside of this car was beautiful and we were greeted with fresh fruit, souvenir travel coffee mugs and an awesome embroidered bag. We had an attendant who served us the entire journey and took good care of us. Our reservations were for the last two seats on each side of the train (right by the back door) and to us.....they were the best seats in the house.
This was our view as the train pulled out of the station.
It was fun along the journey you would see cars parked along the side of the road to wave at the train as it went by. Cinder Bear zoomed ahead of the train and we saw him parked alongside the road a long the way.
The scenery was magnificent. Being in the last car also gave you the advantage of taking amazing shots of the entire train as we went around the curves. The weather was AWESOME!
Paul confided to me later that he was totally bored during this trip. He already looked bored at this point.........although, he did take a lot of photos......just this adventure was not his cup of tea.
The view from my seat was amazing.
After we rode about 30 minutes, Lorraine came around with these amazing HUGE GIAGANTIC muffins. We were full from the fruit plate we had earlier, so Paul and I shared a Lemon Poppy Seed muffin. Never had one before......but it sure was delicious.
You will see lots of pictures of the train while we were on it......you just couldn't help taking them with the glorious backdrop.
We took some fun pictures along the way:
And we took some family pictures along the way:
But mostly we tried to capture the fun we had along the way:
What an awesome beginning to this fun adventure. Don't worry......there's LOTS more pictures to come!
