Tuesday....my new favorite day!

Can't wait for Tuesday.
Our new favorite day of the week.

This is the day that we've designated as a "no work" day
So this next Tuesday will be a special day

And we've picked a special place to go
It can't be too far.....It can't be too expensive......someplace we've never visited

Wanna know where?

I'll tell ya on Wednesday!

Quiet moments

Long day of crunching numbers. Needed and deserved a quiet moment. Outside on the back porch with the blue skies and storm clouds coming in from the south. 90 degrees - but a nice breeze blowing, which made in enjoyable.

Close my eyes and listen to the wind chimes clacking and birds chirping.....how peaceful it is. How wonderful to just quietly sit and enjoy this simple moment.

The you open your eyes and see......

the grass needs mowed
the house needs painted
the siding needs repaired
the bamboo needs cut down and eliminated

you know how it is.......but for two minutes I really enjoyed my quiet moment.

24 hours

We are so "spur of the moment" people
In fact -- it's really quite an interesting way to be. Luckily we have the ability to live such a spontaneous life (sometimes)!

It's no secret we are over-worked, over-stressed, and any other "over" you can think of. So yesterday at 1pm Paul made the decision we were going to take off for a mini vacation.

In fact, it was going to be a mini vacation to College Station TX (approx. 1.5 hour drive away) and it would include trivia and pizza.

He did his homework and found a place that was having trivia with a $100 grand prize. We notified one of our "new" trivia buddies and he was all set to meet us there. He also is a "spontaneous" guy and was up for the challenge.

So after making hotel reservations, quickly throwing a suitcase together, and making sure that all was well with Pizza Zone.....we left at 3pm.

Dinner was a surprisingly delicious pizza and long chat with the manager at Gumby's Pizza in College Station and then it was off to the BIG trivia challenge.

The Place: O'Bannons Tap House
The Competition: approximately 35 teams comprised of mostly very intelligent Texas A&M students
Our Mission: To not feel like the "old" people in the group and secure a 1st place victory. Although, our very brilliant trivia mate is a 2008 Texas A&M graduate and only 24 years old (and very smart).

The result: a very lucky 4th place finish!

So......after a wonderfully quiet, restful, and peaceful night at our luxurious hotel.....we were off to our next adventure!

So where should two "nerdy museum" type people go.....but to the nearest museum. Fortunately, one of the most historic places in Texas was a very short distance from where we where -- so off we went!

The Place: Washington on the Brazos
Why: This is the place were the pioneers of Texas agreed to make Texas an independent republic and signed the Declaration.

I only wish that I was half as interested in history in school as I am now, because I am absolutely OBSESSED with learning it. Texas has an amazing history! So today we saw the place where they signed the declaration and visited a homestead of the last President of the Republic of Texas. My next desired history lesson: The Civil War!

I can't tell you how wonderful it was to just get away and spend a quality 24 hours with my "best friend". We needed this break so much and I truly can't wait for the next time we can get away for our time together!

Yea us!

After countless hours pouring over lists, shopping, planning, calculating, discussing, stressing, and losing sleep over our first HUGE catering job.....we're proud to announce WE DID IT!

We had way TOO much food (or they didn't have enough people) and there was a minor little mishap with the chafer dish (who knew that the water would all bubble out all over the floor) -- things went smoothly and they were happy with our hard work and GREAT food.

Whew.....I'm sure glad this one is over! Can't wait until the next one!

Challenges

Sometimes challenges aren't bad
Challenges are meant to make you stronger

This is a story about a good challenge

We got a BIG catering order for Thursday.
Normally these are no big deal because we just have to make lots of pizzas
This one, however, is different and we've never had this challenge before.

They want this:

and this:

and this:

and even this:

and then Paul even went and offered this:

and they want it all for this:

Wow, this job will take some timing, planning, and teamwork -- but I think we're gonna pull it off.

Who know what this might be the start of?

Random thoughts

Yesterday was a wasted day
Never made it out of bed -- didn't feel well
Laid there thinking about all the things not getting done
Watched some great old black and white movies

I guess sometimes you need to stop

Today I woke up to a million things to do

Why does the house still look the same as it did when I went to bed Friday night?

How are we ever going to make Lasagna and Fettuccine for 50 people on Thursday?

Why did we just spend money to get our oven fixed only to have someone break it again last night because of carelessness?

Why do people feel the need to call you and not be adult enough to tell you the truth?
Should you call them on their untrue statements or do you just go along and pretend that you believe them?

Why am I just rambling on? I feel great today and I have lots to do. Maybe I shouldn't spend time trying to figure out all this stuff and just get busy.....or should I?

Wow.....I sure do feel better now!

Stay away........

it's one of those days I woke up grumpy
one of those days that if someone says "good morning" to you -- you feel like biting their head off
Can't think of any reason why I'm like this
but it's going to be one of those days that you need to stay away from me

Maybe it's hormonal
Maybe it's stress
Maybe it's because I'm so tired of working 24/7
Maybe it's because there's so much stuff to do today (and everyday)

I don't know the real reason behind it
Maybe it's just one of those days
anyways....is it written somewhere that you have to be in a good mood all the time?

Words of Wisdom

Every day offers a variety of encounters and experiences

If I begin with fear or dread, I often have an unpleasant experience

If I am looking forward to what's next, I often have a rewarding experience

Since I get to choose my OWN thoughts, I choose to expect good

Thank you Daily Word -- this is just the message I needed today.

I choose HALF FULL -- what's your choice?
