His latest one though is a home run. He needs to drink more fluids, but doesn't care for the taste of just plain water. He doesn't like those packet drink things that you add to your water because they contain artificial sweeteners (which he doesn't like). He also doesn't like sodas because they are too sweet.
So he found Simple Syrups. They are homemade, natural ingredients, and can be added to water, smoothies, ice cream, or make snow cones from them. So.....we decided to make one and see how it goes.
The first one we did was a Ginger, Lemon, and Honey concoction. He really, really liked it. Me, not so much. Too much ginger for me, although I'm willing to try it again. We've made this mixture for him about 4 times now, but now we were ready to try some of the other ones on our sheet.
This sheet:
So here are the necessary ingredients to make two different simple syrups
We now have a jar of Raspberry, Orange, and Honey on the left and......
Cherries, Lemon, Vanilla, Honey on the right
They will need to sit in the refrigerator for 24 hours and then we strain the fruit from
them and will have a delicious syrup to add to our water
Here's some of the other exciting things that have happened this week:
Of course the big news in Houston this week is the epic floods. I took this picture from a second story window at midnight as the water creeped up the driveway. The power was out and the rain was coming down in bucket fulls. Only damage was a little water that did get in the trunk. We were lucky compared to lots of other folks in this area.
This was the second day after the store. We got another torrential downpour. Only took 8 minutes of raining to fill up our street and make me be stuck at home.
Luckily the water receded within 2 hours of the storm and we are now looking forward to some sunshine and drying us out.
This is the husband's work. He's seriously thinking about going back to our square cheesybread. He took a picture to show me what it would look like. Looks yummy to me.
Another picture taken from the hubby. He bought a new mixer at the Pizza Expo in Vegas and we are now going to sell our old mixer and get it out of the store. Do you know anyone who needs a mixer?
Remember that Pork Loin Roast I got the other day for $3.75? I just happened to be going through my collection of recipes and found this one that I had printed and stuck away. PERFECT! Now I know what I'm doing with that pork roast.
And last, but not least. I finally got my butt in gear and made some homemade Tomatillo/Guacamole salsa. This stuff is so freaking delicious (and addicting). We'll be enjoying the rest of it tonight with some chips and quesadillas.
It's a crazy life we have......but I love it.
